Plan a birthday mystery party around the person, not the logistics

Prepare the surprise before anyone arrives

Choose a free private hunt and the birthday occasion in the host setup. Write a short introduction that explains why the group is together, then add a final message. Read both out loud before saving; the joke should make sense without an explanation.

Personal touches lock when the game starts. Check spellings and avoid using the final message to reveal information the recipient would not want shared with everybody in the room. The mystery still has authored clues; personalising the introduction does not make every puzzle a custom biography.

An invitation you can adapt

‘You’re invited to a birthday investigation for [name]. Join our call at [time and time zone], then open the private HuntGig link I’ll share. Bring a browser and your best questionable theory. No costume or account needed for guests.’

Keep the actual room invitation in your private group chat. Send it yourself after checking the group list. Include the voice-call link separately if you are celebrating from different homes.

Give the evening a gentle rhythm

Leave a joining window before the mystery starts. All 2–8 players need to be in the room first. Choose the shorter variant for a quick birthday break or reserve a longer window if the group likes discussing every theory.

1. Welcome everyone and explain that the group solves together.
2. Let the birthday person choose whether to make the first discovery or watch a friend demonstrate.
3. Pause after the reveal to read the personal message and raise a toast.
4. Offer the result image as a keepsake; check the team name before anyone shares it.

Make a backup plan that preserves the celebration

If someone cannot stay, play a shorter case instead of rushing a longer one. If a guest arrives after the hunt starts, let them join the separate conversation; the game cannot add a new player mid-case. Keep a simple birthday question ready for a connection break, such as everyone’s favourite shared memory.
